We are seeking an experienced Technical Scrum Master / Project Manager to lead the day-to-day coordination of a distributed quality assurance and automation team supporting a public-facing climate data platform. The platform ingests and standardizes climate disclosure data from thousands of companies, transforms it into a consistent core data model, and serves that data to the public via a website and downloadable Excel exports.
The working schedule is 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. ET (New York time)
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary Scrum Master/Project Manager for a distributed QA and automation team, running or facilitating Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming, sprint review, retrospectives).
- Manage sprint execution, timelines, dependencies, risks, and reporting across Manual Testing, API Testing, Data Validation/Accuracy Testing, and Automation workstreams.
- Partner with the client and delivery leads to translate roadmap and release plans into actionable, well-scoped sprint backlogs and objectives.
- Understand at a working level which layer of the system (UI, API, backend services, or underlying data model) is affected by a given change along with respective QA leads, and use that understanding to help task out the appropriate testing coverage to the team.
- Provide top-level directional guidance and facilitation for the automation strategy (framework direction, coverage priorities) in partnership with automation engineers – does not require hands-on scripting.
- Facilitate (rather than directly manage) Security and Accessibility testing workstreams, ensuring they are properly scheduled, resourced, and integrated into sprint planning.
- Act as a servant-leader and facilitator for the team, removing blockers and enabling smooth cross-team collaboration across distributed time zones.
- Support general QA strategy and test planning discussions, bringing enough QA domain knowledge to contribute meaningfully without owning test case creation.
- Maintain and manage requirements documentation, sprint artifacts, and reporting in JIRA (or equivalent).
- Provide regular status reporting and escalation management to client stakeholders and internal leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience leading distributed/remote Agile teams and facilitating all Agile ceremonies.
- Comfortable leading and coordinating a team of ~10 QA, SME, and Automation Engineers.
- Strong working knowledge of JIRA, requirements documentation, and sprint/backlog management tools.
- Soft-technical fluency with a modern web application tech stack – comfortable discussing REST APIs, front-end/back-end/database architecture, and how changes at each layer impact testing scope. (Deep hands-on technical/coding skills are not required.)
- General understanding of test automation strategy and direction sufficient to guide and facilitate automation workstreams.
- General QA knowledge, including test strategy and test planning concepts.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) or Agile PMP
