Manual QA Engineer
Tech skills
We are a fast-growing startup looking for a detail-oriented and analytically minded Manual QA Engineer to join our team. This is not just a testing role – it is a career launchpad. We are specifically seeking someone who has the ambition and aptitude to grow into a Product Owner position over time, bridging quality assurance with product thinking.
You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our multi-role application, with particular focus on billing flows, end-to-end user journeys, and cross-functional features. Beyond finding bugs, you will be expected to think critically about what we build and help shape what comes next.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Design, write, and maintain comprehensive test cases and checklists for new and existing features
- Perform manual functional, regression, integration, and exploratory testing across all application modules
- Test multi-role application scenarios (e.g. admin, user, guest, billing roles) to ensure correct permission boundaries and experience consistency
- Own end-to-end testing of billing and payment flows, including subscription management, edge cases, and error handling
- Identify, document, and track bugs with clear, reproducible steps and supporting evidence
Bug Reporting & Documentation
- Write detailed, well-structured bug reports with severity classifications, steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual results, and environment context
- Maintain and organize test documentation in TestRail, ensuring traceability from requirements to test cases
- Update and manage QA tickets in Jira throughout the development lifecycle
Collaboration & Requirements
- Work directly with developers to clarify requirements, reproduce bugs, and validate fixes in a timely manner
- Collaborate closely with product managers to understand feature scope, acceptance criteria, and release priorities
- Participate in requirements analysis sessions, asking the right questions early to catch ambiguities before they reach development
- Serve as a quality advocate in cross-functional discussions, representing the user perspective throughout the product lifecycle
Analytical & Product Thinking
- Review new and existing functionality with a critical product lens, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or UX friction
- Proactively propose improvements to product functionality, supported by observed user behavior and test findings
- Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria as you grow into the product role, collaborating closely with developers and designers
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and product discussions as your product knowledge deepens
What We’re Looking For:
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in manual QA or software testing
- Hands-on experience testing tech product applications (SaaS, web platforms, or mobile apps)
- Proven ability to create detailed test cases, test plans, and checklists from scratch
- Experience testing applications with multiple user roles and access levels
- Hands-on experience testing billing, payment, or subscription features
- Strong bug reporting skills with attention to detail and clear written communication
- Working knowledge of Jira for ticket management and Agile/Scrum workflows
- Experience with TestRail or a similar test case management tool
- Comfort using Excel or Google Sheets for test tracking, reporting, and documentation
Bonus Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Trello for task and project tracking
- Exposure to product management concepts: user stories, acceptance criteria, backlog management
- Experience working in a startup environment
- Basic understanding of APIs and ability to read API documentation
Background or exposure to HR and recruiting processes – understanding how to evaluate candidates, structure hiring criteria, or contribute to team building is a strong plus as we scale
