Manual API Tester

We are looking for a detail-oriented Manual QA Engineer with strong experience in API testing and data validation. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy and consistency of data across our platform by validating REST APIs, web interfaces, downloadable reports, and backend data flows. You will work closely with Product, Development, and Automation QA teams in an Agile environment to deliver high-quality releases.

Data Validation & Quality Assurance

• Validate data consistency between REST API responses and the web application (Company Profiles, Data Tables, Data Explorer, etc.).
• Verify that downloadable files (Excel/CSV) accurately reflect the data displayed in the UI.
• Perform end-to-end testing of data ingestion, submission, and transformation workflows to ensure correct mapping to core database models.
• Identify discrepancies in data, formatting, metadata, duplicates, caching behavior, and encoding.

Sprint Testing & Regression

• Execute manual test cases for new features and enhancements during each sprint before UAT deployment.
• Perform comprehensive regression testing for impacted features whenever changes are introduced.
• Validate role-based permissions across different user types, ensuring correct access for Create, Update, Delete, and Read operations.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including:
  • Daily Standups
  • Sprint Planning
  • Backlog Refinement
  • Sprint Retrospectives
  • Knowledge Transfer sessions
• Collaborate with the Automation QA team by providing APIs, test data, and scenarios suitable for automation.

Defect Management & Documentation

• Report defects in Jira with detailed reproduction steps, expected vs. actual results, and relevant API requests/responses.
• Create and maintain comprehensive manual test documentation in tools such as Excel, Zephyr, or Xray.
• Keep test cases up to date as product requirements and data models evolve.

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with REST API testing using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar API clients.
• Solid understanding of JSON structures, including nested objects, metadata, and complex payload validation.
• Experience validating large datasets and identifying missing fields, incorrect formats, duplicate records, and other data inconsistencies.
• Ability to analyze Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and Technical Design Documents (TDDs) to design comprehensive manual test coverage.

Methodology & Process

• Hands-on experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Good understanding of Jira hierarchy (Epics, Features, Stories, Tasks), sprint lifecycle, and QA responsibilities within the Definition of Done.
• Ability to work core hours aligned with the Eastern Standard Time (EST) timezone.
• Experience working successfully in a fully remote environment with excellent self-management and communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Nice to Have:

• Experience testing data-intensive platforms with complex classification structures (industry hierarchies, organization identifiers, financial reporting data, etc.).
• Familiarity with validating manual testing results alongside automated data pipelines or workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
• Basic understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
